Google’s Bard and ChatGPT Write a Blog Post

I asked both Google’s Bard and OpenAI’s ChatGPT to Write a Blog Post. Here’s What I Found.

“Large Language Models simply figure out the next word based on the prompt and the words that have come before. Maybe that’s all human intelligence is as well.”

Large Language Model chat programs are my new obsession. I just received access to Google’s Bard program and have had access to ChatGPT for a while. I’ve used ChatGPT extensively and have even built two websites around the model: Realtor’s Docs to help Real Estate professionals to create documents such as home listings and What To Read Next to help people find their next book based on their previous books. Both use the ChatGPT API to create a prompt and have the chat program respond. I’ve enjoyed working with ChatGTP and like it’s responses.

Now that I also have access to Bard, I thought it would be interesting to attempt to compare them. I wrote a similar post a while ago comparing speech to text capabilities. I own a vacation resort on Maryland’s Eastern Shore called Ship’s Cove. My idea was to have both Bard and ChatGPT write a blog post given the same prompt.

Here’s the prompt: “Write a blog post about the benefits of taking your family on a family vacation to the eastern shore of Maryland.”

So…which one did I use?

In short, they are both amazing. To even contemplate that an AI could creatively write something like a blog post is mind blowing. It’s forcing me, and all of us, to contemplate the idea of intelligence. Large Language Models simply figure out the next word based on the prompt and the words that have come before. Maybe that’s all human intelligence is as well.

As far as the analysis goes, the Bard response is good, but it feels a bit repetitive. The phrase “beautiful family-friendly” is repeated a few times making it feel less organic. The ChatGPT post feels very organic and pulls in more information including specifically naming beaches and tourist locations. At the end of the day, I used the ChatGPT response in the post.

I’m sure both models will progress over time, but for now, ChatGPT has the lead, at least in my book.
